Is annexation a thing of the past with the constant threat of nuclear weapons?

I'm thinking it would be a little hard for any country to successfully annex another now with the constant threat of nuclear weapons, and along with NATO and the UN, it would be hard to keep an area for very long without constant re-invasion. What do you guys think?
